FAQs

Marco Polo Academy Online is a division of Marco Polo Academy, a private Ministry-inspected school, using an asynchronous delivery model to offer high school credit courses to students working towards the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Universities and colleges around the world recognize the OSSD credits issued by Marco Polo Academy.

Enrolment:

Students may enroll any day of the year and begin their course(s) within 72 hours of registration (Note: registrations that occur on holidays will be enrolled on the next day). Students have up to August 1, 2020 to complete each course. Additionally, students, while allowed to work on their own pace and develop a personal schedule for completing the course, each unit of study in a course must be completed within four weeks before proceeding to the next unit.

All students, both international and local, are eligible to take courses through MPAO. Permission from the student's home school is not required, however, students must submit required documentation to ensure they satisfy course prerequisites.

Support:

In addition to the support the school provides with its qualified teachers, courses include access to on-demand, online tutoring and support.

Final Exams:

Students may finish their courses and write their proctored final exams online any day of the year from anywhere in the world.

Course Materials:

While all online course content and assessments exist within our secure learning management system, if e-textbooks or additional resources are required students will be informed at the time of registration.

Communication:

Marco Polo Academy will communicate with the student's home school by sending them a letter of registration, a midterm report, and a final report. Upon request by the student, Marco Polo Academy will also send this information to the OUAC, OCAS, or post-secondary institutions.

When the home school receives the final report, the mark is added to the student's Ontario Student Transcript. Alternatively, students may enroll in MPOA as full-time and earn their entire OSSD online.

Academic Integrity:

We maintain a high academic standard for education in Ontario and have a firm commitment to academic integrity and honesty.

Out of province or international students studying an online course with MPA

Students do not require a study permit in order to take online courses. However, if you are an international student and plan to physically enter Canada in order to study, you will need a specific visa or study permit. Contact Citizenship and Immigration Canada for more information.

Ontario Student Record (OSR) for the International Student

An Ontario Student Record (OSR) must exist for every student registered at MPA. Where an OSR does not exist, in particular for out of province or international students, MPA will establish one. This file will contain all academic records including copies of official school records for a student, such as transcripts, community service records, Ontario literacy records, report cards, IEPs, PLARs, and other important information pertaining to the student’s education.

The Report Card

Two official provincial Report Cards are issued - the first is a midterm one and the second is a final. Each report card will focus on two distinct but related aspects of student achievement. First, the achievement of curriculum expectations is reported as a percentage grade. Second, the teacher will also provide written comments concerning the student's strengths, areas for improvement and next steps. Second, the learning skills are reported as a letter grade, representing one of four levels of accomplishment (N=Needs improvement, S=Satisfactory, G=Good, and E=Excellent). The report cards contain separate sections for the reporting of these two aspects. Only the Final Report Card indicates whether an OSSD credit has been earned.

Identification

The student must forward a copy of their photo ID (passport, driver's license, etc.) or birth certificate to MPA via email: [email protected] or mail to:
